Wits garden project growing opportunities for the community

Making a concerted effort to curb the increasing crisis that links food insecurity and poverty with crime, the Siyakhana food garden project, coordinated by Wits professor Michael Rudolph, is a step in the right direction. The garden has given rise to employment and training opportunities for the unemployed, especially woman and children from shelters.The necessary skills to grow the produce and then sell it are being taught to a needy community as well as the importance of a nutritious diet.
