The Johannesburg Civic Theatre has a daily visitor count of 1200 people and proudly boasts of housing the only Nelson Mandela Theatre worldwide! By improving the facilities at the theatre the Civic aims to establish itself as a world-class venue for live entertainment on its four stages. The Civic Theatre aims to provide a platform for African performers, musicians, directors, designers and technicians to develop and improve their skills through sponsorships so that productions that are staged are financially sound, ensuring a constant source of income for the theatre. In August 2001, former president Nelson Mandela bestowed the honour on the Johannesburg Civic Theatre of giving his personal approval to the re-naming of the theatre's main stage. The complex now proudly boasts of housing the only Nelson Mandela Theatre worldwide.
